Kathmandu, September 9: The Finance Committee under the House of Representatives has passed the Banking Offenses and Punishment (Second Amendment) Bill, 2080. The committee meeting held on Monday at Singh Darbar passed the said bill with amendments. The cabinet meeting on Saun 23, 2080 BS had approved the draft of the Bill, 2080 to amend the Banking Offenses and Punishment Act, 2064, and the then finance minister Dr. Prakasharan Mahat had registered this bill in the House on Asoj 16 2080 As there are different legal remedies to check dishonor cases, the government has introduced a bill to make it uniform. Committee chairman Santosh Chalise said that once the bill is passed, it will be submitted to Speaker Devraj Ghimire and requested to submit to the House as soon as possible. He informed that a provision has been added in the bill to increase the punishment from two years to four years in the case of dishonor of checks worth more than 10 crores.
