Kathmandu, September 6: Today is the Haritalika Teej festival specially observed by women. The women folk go fasting today paying homage to Lord Shiva for the good health and happiness of their husbands. Those unmarried women perform special pooja of Lord Shiva wishing to get a husband as desired. One day earlier to the Teej festival, women eat Dar (delicious food) preparing for fasting on the Teej day. However, these days, the Dar events are observed one month earlier to the Teej festival. Women clad in red saree gather around the Shiva Temple and spend the fasting day by dancing and paying homage to Lord Shiva. According to Hindu mythology, Goddess Parvati got Lord Shiva as her husband after fasting and pooja on Teej Day. The four doors of the Pashupatinath Temple are open from 3 am today considering the crowd of women visiting the Temple. A large crowd of women have gathered at the Temple from early this morning.
