By Our Reporter Three years after he formed CPN (Unified Socialist) by breaking the CPN (UML), Madhav Nepal is struggling for the party’s survival. The recently concluded elections to pick the office bearers and politburo members further weakened the base of his party. The tussle between Nepal and Ghanashyam Bhusal has eroded the party. Although the party failed to become a national party in the 2022 elections, it won 10 seats in the House of Representatives with the backing of the NC. Although the lawmakers may not quit the party, many leaders who are now not in the parliament and Provincial Assembly may return to their mother party before the 2027 elections. Many of them, including Mukunda Neupane, have already returned to UML. Even Ram Kumari Jhankri, who fully backed Nepal during the split of the party is now not happy with Nepal and her party. If she gets a green signal from UML's chairman Oli, she could return to UML anytime. After the NC and UML forged an alliance, the Neapl-led party has lost positions from centre to provinces and Nepal is finding it difficult to retain the party leaders and cadres.
