Now the festival season has begun. Together with the festivals, the season of the protest has also begun. Kathmanduites faced the ordeals caused by the first demonstrations of the season on Sunday, on the eve of Father's Day.
When two separate groups—one by the victims of cooperatives and another by the relatives and rights activists protesting against the murder of Nirmala Kurmi—demonstrated in two separate routes on Sunday, the traffic movements went out of gear for hours in the capital.
Although the protestor's groups staged a demonstration for just one-and-half-hour in Kathmandu, the traffic movement remained disturbed for at least four hours.
The cooperative victims began their protest from Ratnapark (Peace Park) and moved towards Singha Durbar and Kurmi's relatives and supporters took out a march past carrying placards from Maitighar to Baluwatar, bringing the vehicular movements to a grinding halt.
When the cooperative victims, tried to break the prohibitory zone in Bhadrakali and tried to move ahead towards Singha Durbar, scuffles between the Police administration and the demonstrators ensued for a while, which further deteriorated the situation.
Similarly, when the Nirmala Kurmi's supporters walked from Maitighar to Baluwatar, more areas saw traffic jams. Commuters and office goers faced irritating traffic jams together with extensive heat.
