The dispute on the 30-year service in Nepal and the Armed Police Force has been resolved with the Supreme Court annulling its interim order not to implement the 30-year service provision in Nepal Police and the Armed Police Force.
In both police forces, the officers and others get retirement either by completing 30 years in service or based on age limits.
About two weeks ago, SSP Jeevan Kumar Shrestha and other police officers who received retirement on this Sunday, filed a writ petition in the Supreme Court demanding the removal of the 30-year service period.
While hearing the petition, a bench of Justice Hari Phuyal ordered not to send the officers home immediately based on the 30-year service period. However, a joint bench of Justices Binod Sharma and Saranga Subedi vacated the interim order on Friday last week, the police officers retired en masse.
Since the 30-year service period in Nepal Police continued, 90 police officers are getting their compulsory retirement by mid-September.
Of them, a majority of the senior police officers retired on Sunday (September 1).
Those who received retirement on Sunday (September 1) include DIG Bishnu Kumar KC, Chief of Bagmati Province Police Office, and 11 SSPs including Jeevan Kumar Shrestha, Rewati Dhakal, Kishan Singh Thapa, Dilli Raj Bista, Bel Bahadur Pandey, Dinesh Raj Mainali, Nabin Raj Rai, Rabi Kumar Poudel, Bir Bahadur Oli, Chandra Dev Rai and Rabindra Regmi.
Similarly, 11 SPs also got retirement. They included Krishna Prasain, Prem Bahadur Basnet, Rajendra Babu Regmi, Laxmi Raj Adhikari, Devendra Bahadur Pal, Bishnu Hari Koirala, Abadesh Bista, Narendra Kumar Karki, Tekunanda Eva Limbu, Chitra Bahadur Gurung, Hira Pandey and Nabin Kishor Pradhan.
Additionally, 31 DSPs including Shriram Bhandari, Ram Krishna Sapkota, Govinda Panthi, Kiran Prasad Neupane, Manoj Kumar Shrestha, Khagendra Prasad Rijal and Bijay Thapa also retired.
Furthermore, 34 inspectors including Yograj Neupane, Shanta Ram Karki, Meghnath Chapagain, Kishan Chand Thakuri, Hari Bishnu Dhakal, Kashiraj Regm, and Arjun Prasad Pokharel have retired.
AIG Shyamlal Gyawali of the Nepal Police is also retiring on September 11. In the first week of October, AIG Ram Dutta Joshi and DIG Yagya Binod Pokharel are also scheduled to retire.
