Kathmandu, September 3: Foreign Minister Arju Rana Deuba has answered the questions raised in the meeting of the Parliament’s International and Tourism Committee today. Replying to the questions raised by the MPs, she made it clear that she paid a goodwill visit to India.

She said that the main purpose of the visit was to focus on how to make the bilateral mechanism functional.

During the visit, the Nepali delegation led by her talked about new air routes from India and it was agreed to hold a meeting of the technical team. She said that the agreement about Pancheswar is almost at the final stage. She made it clear that there was no talk about EPG during the visit. She said that this issue will be discussed at an appropriate time.

Admitting that the appointment of ambassadors was not inclusive, she said that she was trying to get the Tarai people to participate in one of the vacant posts. She also apologized for not being able to get recommendations from Dalit and Muslim communities.

She will pay attention to such matters next time, she said and added that Shankar Sharma was recommended as ambassador to India based on his efficiency. The ambassador appointment guidelines should be revised and the committee needs to take initiative in this regard, she said.
