Kathmandu, September 2: Today is the birth and death anniversary of Nepal’s noted literary figure Motiram Bhatta. The 159th birth anniversary of the youth poet is being observed nationwide today by organizing different literary programs.
Bhatta, born on Kushe Aunsi (Father’s Day) in 1923 BS (1866 AD) and who passed away on the same day in 1953 BS (1896 AD), had a brief but impactful life of 30 years.
Credit goes to Bhatta for his contribution to developing the Nepali language and literature.
Bhatta immortalized Adikavi Bhanubhakta Acharya through his biography and published the Bhanubhakta Ramayan authored by pioneer poet Bhanubhakta.
Bhatta also introduced the printing press in Nepal laying the foundation of Nepali journalism and introducing Ghazals in Nepali literature.
