Nuwakot jail to be developed as industrial center: Home Minister Lekhak
Kathmandu, September 1: Minister for Home Affairs, Ramesh Lekhak, said the Nuwakot Central Jail would not only be developed as a prisoner detention center but also an industrial center. Inaugurating the Central Jail in Nuwakot on Saturday, Home Minister Lekhak said that different industries will be established inside the jail providing various skills training to the prisoners.
Out of the 10 tasks set by the Ministry of Home Affairs, operating the prison in Nuwakot is one of the tasks to be conducted in the 100 days of the government, said the Minister.
Expansion of the prison and teaching various skills to the inmates will be made to produce multiple items within the jail premises. If it earns the money, then the economic development of this place will also be done by taking it out and selling it”, the Minister said.
Stating that a large number of people are spending jail term, he expressed the belief that it will increase the economic activities here. Prisoners and security personnel living here buy food and clothes. This will lead to economic development here, said Home Minister Lekhak. According to him, the jail has been built with modern facilities and a large number of prisoners living in the jail also have human rights. The present government is committed to democracy, the rule of law and human rights, he said.
