Online shopping is shopping done online using the internet in which the customer does not need to visit the shopping store physically, whereas, physical shopping is shopping which has got the opposite feature of online shopping which means, the customers must visit the marketplace physically to buy things. Michael Aldrich, an English innovator in 1979, invented online shopping. He introduced online shopping to enable online transaction processing between consumers and businesses a technique which is now known as electronic commerce (e-commerce).

In recent days, online shopping has been immensely taking the place of physical shopping in stores. However, some groups of people still think or prefer to choose physical shopping instead of online shopping. But the number of such people has decreased very less number today.

There are many benefits of online shopping, firstly, people can buy the things they like online without physically visiting the stores which saves their time. Due to this, they can utilize their time in other aspects of their life, such as household work, business etc. Additionally, we don’t need to get a visa from abroad to buy things online internationally; which makes buying more convenient. Because of this buying online becomes more fun and attractive than buying in stores.

On the other hand, many online shopping apps provide/send the unfitting size of the clothes and shoes that are bought by customers. Daraz and Alibaba, for example, have so many customers who say that the clothes and accessories purchased from them have not been in the right size. This results in less trust and continuity of people buying things online. Similarly, many people have also complained about not getting the same materials as shown online. In Nepal, for instance, Daraz has received many complaints about not getting the same things as shown online.

Though online shopping does not have a long history in Nepal, not more than a decade or so, its growth is rapid and the advancement in technology has made it more viable and convenient. The popularity of online shopping among Nepalese customers has increased with the cost-reduction of technology-based goods, the cost of internet services, and easy access to the internet. At the same time, the convenient modes of payment, and user-friendly, as well as, interactive shopping apps are further paving a pathway to unprecedented growth in online shopping companies.

In recent years, the number of online websites and pages serving customers throughout the country has witnessed an uptick. But at the same time, the challenges of online shopping have grown in abundance. So, many people think that along with the benefits, there are lots of challenges and difficulties while doing online shopping in comparison to physical shopping. In conclusion, it can be said that online shopping is more good than bad, but people must realize that there are also other aspects of it. People should enjoy doing online shopping and also be careful and wise while purchasing goods online.
