Kathmandu, August 26: The meeting of the Public Accounts Committee held on Sunday to decide on the outstanding tariff dispute of dedicated and trunk lines of the Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) has ended inconclusively. The meeting ended inconclusively after lawmakers clashed over the outstanding tariff dispute.
Sunday’s discussions went on for a long time to find a point to resolve the dispute. Committee chairman Rishikesh Pokharel had proposed to send Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) Managing Director Kulman Ghising to the CIAA for investigation. Maoist Centre lawmakers protested when Pokharel tried to decide on the proposal.
UML lawmaker Gokul Baskota had opposed the proposal of the Maoist lawmakers in the meeting. When lawmakers clashed over the dispute, the Accounts Committee the postponement of the meeting saying that it would be discussed in the next meeting.
To note, a group of industrialists, who had used electricity for their industries during the time of the electricity shortage, have refused to pay the dues against the use of electricity. When the NEA cut off the electricity supply in their industries, Prime Minister K.P. Sharma Oli gave a special order to the NEA to resume electricity without paying the bill.
