Kathmandu, August 24: Nepal, currently chair of the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC), has proposed for a sideling meeting of the foreign ministers from the SAARC countries at the 79th General Assembly of the United Nations in September.
The UN General Assembly is going to start on September 10.
The high-level discussion in the UN General Assembly will be held from September 24 to 29. During that time, the SAARC head of state or head of the nation and all the foreign ministers, excluding Afghanistan will be present in New York, headquarters of the UN.
Afghanistan will not attend the UN GA as the international community has not recognized the regime change in Afghanistan in 2021.
Foreign Minister Arzu Rana Deuba has proposed the sideline meeting to all the seven member countries, excluding Afghanistan, however, the Foreign Ministry is yet to receive a response from the member countries. The sideline meeting will be decided after the reply from India and Pakistan.
Since the SAARC Summit was derailed due to the dispute between India and Pakistan, Nepal has continuously chaired the SAARC.
