Kathmandu, August 18: UML leader and former Deputy Prime Minister Dr. Bhim Rawal commented that the Nepali Congress-UML coalition government is against the spirit of the constitution. Addressing a program held in the capital on Saturday, he said that the current government is against the spirit of Article 269 of the Constitution of Nepal.
Article 269 of the Constitution of Nepal mentions that political parties should promote themselves based on certain philosophies, programs and policies and this is a competitive multiparty system. In this multiparty competitive system, what do they do when two big political parties with opposite principles come together? That is very important. In this normal political process, political parties go among the people advance their programs, policies and principles and ask for people’s votes. Whoever gets the majority forms the government. If no one gets the majority, in that case, the parties that agree together form the government. This is something envisioned in the general constitution of Nepal,” he said.
He said that since two big parties with opposite principles have formed the government, it is a test of whether these parties will work in the fields of national security, Nepal’s sovereignty, territorial integrity, agriculture, industry, health, communication, keeping in mind the larger interests of the nation.
