
Kathmandu, August 16: The Pakistan Embassy in Kathmandu observed its 78th Independence Day on Wednesday, August 14.
On the occasion, a flag hoisting ceremony was held at Chancery. Ambassador Abrar H Hashmi unfurled Pakistan’s national flag at the Chancery. Embassy officials, the Pakistani community in Kathmandu and Nepalese friends along with their families attended the ceremony.
Messages of President of Pakistan Asif Ali Zardari, Prime Minister of Pakistan Muhammad Shebaz Sharif; and Muhammad Ishaq Dar, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister were read out.
On the same evening, the Pakistan Embassy in collaboration with the Nepal-Pakistan Friendship and Cultural Association (NPFCA) organized an Independence Day Reception at the Hilton, Hotel, Kathmandu.
Vice President Dr. Ram Sahay Prasad Yadav was the Chief Guest at the reception. Special guests included Deputy Speaker Indira Ranamagar, former prime minister Madhav Kumar Nepal, former DPM and chairman of JSP-Nepal Upendra Yadav, former DPM C.P. Mainali, former foreign minister Pradeep Kumar Gyawali and Member of Parliament Ms Rekha Yadav. A good number of guests including ambassadors, UN agency heads, SG SAARC, diplomats, political figures, government officials, businessmen, defence attaches, journalists as well as Pakistani community attended the reception.
On the occasion, Ambassador Hashmi extended thanks for Nepal’s continued support and friendship. He said, “Our civilizational commonalities, same regional dynamics, cultural and linguistic similarities as well as common developmental and ecological challenges make us multifaceted partners”. Pakistan’s approach to its partnership with Nepal is underpinned by a desire to mutually benefit. To sustain the relations, we inked a number of agreements such as trade, air services, cultural, tourism, and agriculture cooperation, and many mechanisms exist between civil society, too, the ambassador remarked.

Manju Ratna Shayka, president of the NPFCA highlighted that the association with the support of the Pakistan Embassy in its 63 years of history has been serving to promote P2P exchanges, contributing in health and social sectors, and furthering the bilateral relations.
