The two-day introductory visit of Indian Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri got undue importance in Nepal. During his two-day stay in Kathmandu, he held meetings with all high-profile leaders from President Ramchandra Paudel to Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli.
He also held meetings with Deputy Prime Minister duo Prakashman Singh and Bishnu Paudel, Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak and Foreign Minister Arzu Rana besides holding a bilateral meeting with his counterpart Sewa Lamsal.
He also reached Budhanilkantha to meet NC president Sher Bahadur Deuba and Khumaltar to meet Maoist boss Pushpa Kamal Dahal.
PM Oli extended an invitation to his Indian counterpart for a visit to Nepal through the foreign secretary.
Misri returned home on Monday after concluding his two-day official visit to Nepal, which began on Sunday.
Before his departure, Misri met with Deputy Prime Minister and Urban Development Minister Prakash Man Singh, Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Bishnu Prasad Paudel, Minister for Home Affairs Ramesh Lekhak and Foreign Minister Dr. Arzu Rana Deuba.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of External Affairs of India (MEA) said in a statement on Monday that Nepal and India appreciated the progress made in the mutually beneficial partnership in the field of power sector cooperation, which has seen substantial progress in recent years.
The importance Misri got in Kathmandu from high profile leaders only showed how Nepali leaders failed to maintain their profiles before an employee from the southern neighbour. Can our foreign secretary enjoy such respect in India? Can she meet Indian PM Narendra Modi? Never. But our PM and President are always ready to hold meetings with a secretary from India!
