Kathmandu, August 5: The Nepali Congress leaders have drawn the attention of Prime Minister K.P. Sharma Oli to separate the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN) into two bodies – an aviation service-providing organ and an aviation regulatory body.

NC leaders held a meeting with PM Oli on Sunday evening drawing his attention to dividing CAAN into two bodies following the directives of the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) and EU decades ago to improve the performance of CAAN and ensure air safety in the Nepali sky.

NC lawmakers also questioned the role of CAAN chief Pradeep Adhikari, which, they said, is not satisfactory.

PM Oli opined that CAAN’s responsibilities can be separated.

The meeting with the PM was attended by  NC president Sher Bahadur Deuba, home minister Ramesh Lekhak, foreign minister Arzu Rana, MPs Udaya Shumser Rana, Rajan KC, Sanjaya Gautam and Rajendra Bajaain.

From UML, Shankar Pokhrel, Bishnu Rimal, and Mahesh Bartaula, among others, attended the meeting with the PM.
