The chariot of Rato Machhindranath, worshipped as the God of rains and coexistence, has been taken to Jawalakhel Square. According to Baikuntha Acharya, chief of Guthi Sansthan, Lalitpur, locals of Pulchowk of Lalitpur Metropolitan City along with the residents of Chandragiri and Kirtipur municipalities, jointly pulled the chariot to Jawalakhel Square. Satungal, Naikap, Machhegaon, Panga, Na Gaon, Boshi village and Kirtipur are among the seven villages. The chariot of Red Machhindranath was pulled with traditional instruments and tableaux. This jatra (festival), considered the longest jatra in Nepal, started with the hoisting of the idol of Rato Machhindranath at Pulchowk on May 9. The jatra formally started after carrying the idol of Rato Machhindranath from the temple at Machhindrabahal. After the start of the Rath Yatra, it is taken to Jawalakhel through various places of the city including Gawahal, Mangalbazar, Sundhara and Lagankhel. The festival will conclude after displaying a Bhoto, which is also known as Bhoto Jatra. For this festival, the priests will find an auspicious date.    People’s News Monitoring Service.
