Kathmandu, August 2: Rastriya Prajatantra Party chair Rajendra Lingden has alleged the NC and UML trying to end the multiparty system. Addressing the meeting of district presidents of the party that started in Kathmandu on Thursday, he commented that the Congress and UML are trying to take the country to a two-party system.
They were saying that they had a role in bringing the 2007 BS movement, they did it in 2046 BS and they did it in 062/63 BS too, and they say that without them the movement and change were not possible, democracy, multiparty system and proportional inclusion were not possible, Lingden said. Contradctly, Congress and UML started to talk about ending the multiparty system and establishing a two-party system, he said that this is a matter of concern.
“When all the other parties, the civil society are worried about the Congress-UML dominance and authoritarian attitude at present, what will this country be like if there is only Congress-UML?”, he asked.
Lingden said that the responsibility of standing against authoritarian and totalitarian thinking has come on the shoulders of RPP. He said that the base of the party is at the district, regional and local levels, and he opined that the party cannot be strengthened by decisions from the center.
President Lingden also asked for an open discussion about the party in the meeting of district presidents. “Let’s openly criticize the central leadership if we see weaknesses, let’s criticize others if we see them”, he said.
