
Kathmandu, August 1: The three newly appointed province chiefs will take the oath of office and secrecy today. The swearing-in ceremony has been scheduled for 5 pm today at the President’s residence, Sheelat Niwas.
President Ram Chandra Paudel on Wednesday appointed Deepak Prasad Devkota as chief of Bagmati Province, Krishna Bahadur Gharti Magar in Lumbini Province and Yagya Raj Joshi in Karnali Province as per Article 163 (2) of the Constitution.
A meeting of the Council of Ministers held on Monday had decided to recommend them for appointment as province chiefs.
Bagmati Province Chief Yadav Chandra Sharma, Lumbini Province Chief Amik Sherchan and Karnali Province Chief Tilak Pariyar have been relieved of their posts. Sharma, who has been relieved from the post of province chief, is close to the Ekikrit Samajwadi Party, and Sherchan and Pariyar are close to the Maoist Centre. All three of them were appointed by the then-Dahal-led government.
