Kathmandu, July 30: The cabinet meeting on Monday, July 29, recommended the names of the new envoys to 19 different countries by cancelling the names recommended by the previous government led by Pushpakamal Dahal.

The NC-UML coalition government has decided to reappoint Shankar Sharma as the ambassador to India.

Earlier, Sharma was recalled and he was preparing to return home from Delhi.

The government recalled ambassadors assigned under the Maoist Center and Ekikrit Samajwadi Party’s quota.

Krishna Prasad Oli has been named as Nepal’s next ambassador to China. He is the sitting chairman of the National Trust for Nature Conversation. Oli is also a former member of the National Planning Commission; adjunct professor and professor at Sichuan University and Xizang Minzu University, respectively; and a visiting professor at Kathmandu School of Law.

The former chief secretary and Nepal’s ambassador to the United Kingdom, Lok Darshan Regmi, is named as the ambassador to the USA.

Former commerce secretary, Chandra Ghimire, has been named as the ambassador to the United Kingdom.

Netra Timilsina has been nominated for Malaysia; former deputy speaker and minister Shiva Maya Tumbahamphe has been named for South Korea.

The government has recalled ambassadors to Russia, Australia, South Africa and Sri Lanka, who were appointed under the Ekikrit Samajwadi and Maoist Center quota.

Joint secretaries at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Rita Dhital and Prakash Mani Poudel, have been named ambassadors to Pakistan and Portugal respectively.

Dr Shail Rupakheti is named ambassador to Germany, Naresh Bikram Dhakal to Saudi Arabia, Dhan Prasad Pandit to Israel, Professor Kapil Man Shrestha to South Africa and Kanta Rijal to Australia. Dr Rupakheti is a medical doctor and Pandit is a former chief of the Padma Kanya College. Professor Shrestha is a human rights activist.

Ram Krishna Bhattarai has been named ambassador to Sri Lanka as a replacement for Basudev Mishra appointed under the Maoist Centre quota.
