Kathmandu, July 25: The government has prepared to name former chief secretary Shankardash Bairagi as the Nepalese ambassador to India. According to sources, there has been an initial agreement between PM KP Oli and NC president Sher Bahadur Deuba that the UML to get the ambassadorial position in China and the USA and the NC to get an ambassadorial post to India.

Deuba had wished to continue Shankar Sharma as the ambassador to India, however, KP Sharma Oli didn’t agree to it.

Earlier, the government led by Pushpakamal Dahal, in coalition with the UML, had decided to recall Sharma and again assigning him to the same post there would give a negative message, Oli had argued.

Arun Kumar Subedi, who was the foreign adviser when the Nepali Congress president Sher Bahadur Deuba was the prime minister, was also in the race to become the ambassador to India. According to sources, Deuba was positive towards him. However, suddenly Shankardas Bairagi is seen ahead in the race.
