Kathmandu, July 23: A meeting of the Nepal Electricity Authority Board of Directors held today decided to resume electricity for six industries. Earlier, after a denial from the industries to pay dues of the electricity tariff using the dedicated and trunk lines during the load-shedding hours, the NEA had cut off the power supply to the six industries. According to the NEA, electricity will be connected gradually from this evening.

A member of the NEA board of directors said that the NEA has decided to connect the power line with the condition of paying dues within three months. Even if the industries deny paying the dues after three months, then action will be taken to recover the arrears again.

NEA had cut off power supply to six industries including Jagadamba Steel, Jagdamba Synthetic, Reliance Spinning Mills, Ghorahi Cement, Arghakhanchi Cement and Hulas Steel. NEA and industrialists have been at loggerheads for a long time over the issue of electricity arrears.

On Friday, Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli summoned NEA Managing Director Kulman Ghising and industrialists to the Prime Minister’s official residence in Baluwatar and directed Ghising to connect the line immediately. However, the NEA Board of Directors refused to connect the line saying that it could not resume the disconnected power supply service on the basis of oral orders without written instructions.
