Kathmandu, July 21: The Nepal Army has so far opened 1,411 kilometers of road tracks in different parts of the country. A total of 38 bailey bridges installed during the period have been handed over to the Department of Roads.
There is a constitutional provision that the Nepal Army can be mobilized in development works and disaster management works. Joint Director of the Directorate of Military Development Construction and Major General Dharmendra Kumar Jha said that the Army has been carrying out development works as per the Constitution of Nepal, National Security Policy and directives of the Government of Nepal. At present, the Nepal Army is engaged in the construction of three national pride projects and two first priority projects. Its total length is 274.537 kilometers. Out of these, the construction of four strategically important north-south road corridors is going on under the direct control of the Army’s Development Construction Directorate.
The under-construction projects are Darchula-Tinker (79 km), Benighat-Arughat-Larkebhanjyang 92 km, Karnali Corridor (Lalibagar-Bagar-Dulkikunna section and Ghantiparichaur-Badrigaun-Bhukka Khola section) 22 km and Khandbari-Kimathanka (Chamtang-Ghughappa section) 10.51 km. Jha said that the 70.977 km Kathmandu-Tarai-Madhes Fast Track Project, the country’s most important project, is also being constructed under the management of the Nepal Army.
Earlier, the Army had opened track of Surkhet-Jumla 88 km, Beni-Jomsom 91 km, Chhinchu-Jajarkot 45 km, Besisahar-Chame 65 km and Nagma-Gamgadhi 94 km. The pilot track of The Kathmandu-Tarai-Madhes Expressway is 80 km, Mailung-Syafrubesi 17 km, Jajarkot-Dolpa Dunai 117 km, Kaligandaki Corridor Gulmi-Baglung section 75 km and Kadali Corridor Khulalu-Laifu-Salisala section 122 km.
