Kathmandu, July 21: The Morimla border point in the northern part of Dolpa district is set to reopen after six years. The border point with China was closed after the coronavirus pandemic. According to Chief District Officer Tulsi Prasad Dahal, preparations are underway to open the border points from August 1.
The District Administration Office has issued more than 1,800 passes (identity cards) to the locals to cross the border. CDO Dahal said that a significant number of locals are coming to get a pass every day. He said that a temporary security post would be set up around the border area to prevent any untoward incident during this period as the border point, which is the main trading center of the Upper Dolpa people, will open after a long time.
The Division Forest Office is also going to monitor the area to prevent the movement of illegal and banned goods. The people of Upper Dolpa buy rice, salt, oil, tea, clothes, ghee, tea, beverages and other food items. The goods purchased in this way are transported on horses, mules, yaks, sheep and motorcycles.
