Chief Secretary Aryal suspended, Gartaula assigned officiating chief secretary
Kathmandu, June 24: Chief Secretary Baikuntha Aryal has been suspended after the Commission for Investigation on Abuse of Authority (CIAA) filed a case at the Special Court on the charge of being involved in corruption.
After Aryal was suspended, Liladevi Gadtaula, secretary at the Council of Ministers, was assigned as the officiating Chief Secretary.
According to the regulation, the senior secretary will be assigned as the officiating secretary until the case is finalized.
The CIAA filed a case on Sunday, June 23, against 12 officers including chief secretary Aryal saying that they were involved in corruption during the printing of excise dutuy stickers and procurement of a security printing press. All have been suspended until the finalization of the case under the Corruption Eradication Law, 2059.
Aryal is the first chief secretary who has been suspended on the charge of corruption in the history of the civil service.
The CIAA, however, gave a clean chit to the then two ministers, Gyanendra Bahadur Karki and Mohan Bahadur Basnet, involved in the same case.
