Main tunnel of the Nagadhunga-Sisnekhola breakthrough today
Kathmandu, April 15: The long-awaited breakthrough of the Nagdhunga-Sisnekhola tunnel is being conducted today, Monday, April 15.
Govind Dumru, deputy director of the Nagahunga Tunnel Construction Project, informed that the tunnel is going to be conducted breakthrough at a formal program on Monday. Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal is also attending the function.
The length of the main tunnel of this tunnel project connecting Balambu in Chandragiri Municipality to Sisnekhola in Dhading is 2667 meters. The project's rescue tunnel has already been completed last July.
Even after the breakthrough, it will take some more time for the project to be fully completed and for ready-to-operate vehicles from the tunnel. According to the contract, the construction of the project should have been completed within 42 months of the start of the project, i.e. in April last year, however, due to different hurdles and disturbances from the residents, the project was delayed.
The project has three underpasses, four box culverts, one overpass, three bridges and one flyover. A flyover is under construction in the Balambu area.
The road slope inside the tunnel, lighting, oxygen pipe connection, and other works are to be done after the breakthrough of the tunnel.
After the operation of the tunnel, the distance and time while crossing the area will be short on the Tribhuwan Highway, the main highway linking Kathmandu with other districts and India by road.
The Japanese government is constructing the tunnel on a grant.
