Cannabis farming should be legalized: Chamber chair Malla
Kathmandu, April 10: Nepal Chamber of Commerce chairman Rajendra Malla has asked the government to provide agricultural loans to farmers rather than to land buyers.
Speaking at the 73rd Annual General Meeting of Nepal Chamber of Commerce in Kathmandu on Tuesday, chair Malla made such a demand.
He also demanded the legalisation of cannabis farming in Nepal to boost the nation’s economy.
He said that the banks and financial institutions are giving agricultural loans to those who buy farms rather than those who cultivate them, and the government should also provide agricultural loans to farmers accordingly. Chairman Malla emphasized that the concessional loans given by the government in agriculture should be continued.
He said that the method of collecting money manually should be abolished immediately by recognizing the transaction value in customs. He urged the government to make an immediate strategic plan to provide employment opportunities to the youth within the country.
Chairman Malla said that the country's economy is import-oriented. He said that Nepal, an agricultural country, imports and consumes more than billions of rupees worth of food and food items annually.
He mentioned that it is necessary to promote, produce, consume and export the natural resources and resources in the country. He asserted that it is necessary to bring domestic and foreign investments in the fields of agriculture, water resources, tourism and IT, which have comparative advantages.
He said that the government should create an environment to promote exports by producing and branding handicraft materials, mineral products, precious gems and stones.
He demanded that the laws pending in the Parliament be amended and passed as soon as possible for the expansion of economic activities and export promotion. He demanded to stop the import of timber in Nepal.
