International ‘Peace Festival’ being held in Lumbini
Kathmandu, March 29: Nepal Tourism Board, Embassy of China to Nepal, Lumbini Development Trust, Nepal Olympic Committee and Lumbini Provincial Sports Council Nepal are jointly organizing the Peace Festival in Lumbini on April 5 and 6.
Nepal Overseas Chinese Association (NOCA), Zhong Hua Monastery and Lumbini Hotel Association are co-organizers of the festival.
The organizers have informed that there will be three important programs in the festival, Lumbini International Peace Marathon, Lumbini International Meditation Day, and Lumbini International Concert. According to the organizers, it is expected to establish Lumbini as a 'tourism destination of world peace and culture'. Lumbini, the birthplace of Gautama Buddha, is a sacred pilgrimage site and a major tourist destination for Buddhists.
Visitors to Nepal regard Lumbini as the 'fountain of peace and Buddhism' around the world. The program is expected to promote tourism as well as promote the essence of peace for humanity.
The center of the event will be at the UNESCO World Heritage Site in the Lumbini Development Trust. The International Day of Meditation program is to be held on the morning of April 5 at the Shanti Bagaicha (Peace Garden). It is said that 100 religious leaders and monks and 400 others will participate in the meditation camp.
On the evening of April 5, there will be a dialogue program on the occasion of the International Sports Day for Development and Peace.
On the same day in the morning, the Lumbini International Peace Marathon will start from Lumbini Square. Nandini Thapa, acting chief of the Nepal Tourism Board, has urged everyone to make it a grand success, as this program plays an important role in the promotion of Nepal's tourism.
In a press conference held in Kathmandu, the deputy chief of mission in the Chinese Embassy Wang Xin said that apart from promoting Nepal's tourism, the purpose of the program being held in Lumbini is to inform the world about world peace and the birthplace of Buddha.
He said that many Chinese people want to visit Lumbini, and events like the Lumbini Peace Marathon, and Meditation Camp will attract them more. He said that a cultural program has been organized for the development of Nepali culture and famous singers from China will also perform at the ceremony.
Highlighting the importance of Lumbini International Meditation Day, he emphasized that Nepal should lobby the United Nations to recognize the day as International Meditation Day.
Chairman of the Nepal Olympic Committee and former minister Jeevanram Shrestha informed that the 'Peace Festival' started in 2022 is continuing.
