
Kathmandu, March 29: China has constructed the earthquake-damaged hospital in Chautara. The hospital, which was built with the aid of the friendly nation China, has been completed in a period of 18 months and is fully prepared for services with 39 beds. The Chinese construction team is waiting to hand over the newly built hospital to the Nepal government.
On August 15, 2018, an agreement was signed in Kathmandu between the Agency for International Economic Cooperation under the Ministry of Finance of China and the Ministry of Health and Population of Nepal for the reconstruction of the hospital building.
The Chinese government has provided a 60 million RMB grant to rebuild the hospital damaged by the devastating earthquake in 2015. China Aid Sindhupalchok Hospital Recovery Project in Nepal, which started construction on September 9, 2022, was completed in about 18 months, i.e. on March 8, 2024, informed Guo Baocheng, senior engineer of the project. "We have completed the construction within the deadline," he said, "now we will hand it over to the Nepal government and return to China."The building was constructed by Chinese contractor Hewei Construction Group under the main management of China Chiyuan Engineering Corporation and Xi'an Sifang Construction Supervision Co., Ltd.
The Chinese government has provided medical equipment, furniture and necessary surgical materials for the hospital along with the construction of a medical complex building 93 stories, water pump room, temporary medical waste room, generator shed with an area of 3,790 square meters and 39 beds.
All floors are equipped with modern self-operating systems. Furniture, machines, and drawers are all imported from China. Even after handing over to the Nepalese government, the Chinese technical team will remain in the hospital for another three years. They will teach about machines and operating systems. Chautara Hospital, which was destroyed after the earthquake, treated patients in tents for about five years.
