Nepal is facing serious threats from climate change: Minister Basnet
Kathmandu, March 28: Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation Minister, Shakti Bahadur Basnet, has said that Nepal is facing serious threats due to climate change.
Addressing a program organized by the National Nature Conservation Fund in Kathmandu recently, Minister Basnet said that Nepal is currently taking up climate change issues seriously.
Minister Basnet said that the Himalayas and glaciers in Nepal are melting rapidly. He said that it is necessary to compensate Nepal to face the challenges caused by climate change.
In the current context, the issues of climate change are the main ones. As a Himalayan nation, Nepal is facing serious threats from climate change. Our Himalayas and glaciers are melting rapidly. While we bear little responsibility for the emissions that led to this crisis, we remain committed to mitigating its impact and adapting to its challenges. In the last decade, the number of tigers in Nepal has almost tripled and the number of one-horned rhinos has also increased significantly. In this context, I call upon the world community to recognize and compensate Nepal for the invaluable environmental services we provide. From providing water to billions of people to protecting endangered species, Nepal's contribution to global environmental stability is unparalleled," said Minister Basnet.
