By Our Reporter Vice-Chairperson of CPN (Maoist Centre), and former Speaker Krishna Bahadur Mahara, who was arrested in connection to his involvement in the gold smuggling case has been released on the condition that he should be present when necessary. Mahara was released on guarantee of his son, Nirmal Mahara, on Friday last week after completing the recording of his statement. Although he denied his involvement in the case, he admitted that he had received calls from the Chinese nationals involved in the smuggling of gold. What Mahara admitted showed his connection with those involved in gold smuggling for long. It seems the gold smugglers were using Mahara to pass their gold and evade the police checking at the Tribhuwan International Airport. A senior Maoist leader, who had already served as Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister as well as Speaker, he had left his impression on the police, the smugglers seemed to have cashed in on his position, which led to the flourishing of gold smuggling via the TIA.
