Kathmandu, 5 January: Jhalnath Khanal, former Prime Minister and senior leader of the CPN Unified Socialist Party has opposed the agreement to allow the Indian Embassy in Nepal to directly implement the 20 crore rupees worth projects.  Former Prime Minister Khanal believes that this agreement is a game against the sovereignty and sovereign rights of the Nepalese people. During the visit of Indian External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar to Nepal, an agreement was reached on Thursday that the Indian Embassy in Kathmandu will be eligible to directly spend $200 million on the project selected by it. Expressing his disagreement with the agreement, Khanal issued a statement saying, "This is an unimaginable anti-national agreement reached between Nepal and India to allow foreign embassies to directly implement plans worth 20 crore rupees.  "This is not only a negligence to our independence; it is also a game against the sovereignty and sovereign rights of Nepal and the Nepali people," Khanal stated.  “I strongly oppose this agreement on behalf of all the patriotic Nepali people”, Khanal said.
