Kathmandu, 24 December: After UML has put forward a proposal for rewarding Maoist Center chair Pushpakamal Dahal Prachanda with the post of prime minister for the first term of the parliament tenure if he agrees for giving the post of president and speaker to the UML, he has started to say that the present alliance can break if the NC will not allow him to lead the government. UML playing strategy to break the present alliance Although it has not been seen in the visible game, covertly, it is playing to break the present alliance. UML’s second-generation leaders are in frequent contact with Maoist Center chair Pushpakamal Dahal. Highly placed sources have confirmed that UML is ready to give Prachanda the prime minister’s post for the first tenure by keeping the posts of the president and speaker for the UML. From Maoist Center, Barshaman Pun is holding meetings with UML’s senior leaders.  Bishnu Poudel, Raghubir Mahaseth, Subhas Nembang, and Yogesh Bhattarai, among other leaders, have met Prachanda and asked for developing an alliance.  UML has put forward the condition to quit the present alliance before reaching an agreement between the UML and Maoist Center for developing a new coalition.  These leaders have proposed to give the president and speaker’s posts for the UML and Prachanda to become the PM for the first half period of parliament. Prachanda is positive about the UML proposal but he wants to give first priority to continuing the present ruling alliance if the NC will allow leading the government to Prachanda for the first half period of parliament. When Deuba claimed to become the PM for the first half period of parliament, he has become positive towards the UML proposal. Prachanda had sent the message to the UML leaders to include the Unified Socialist Party, a splinter of the UML, however, KP Sharma Oli has rejected to recognize the Unified Socialist (US) as a party. Oli has said that those in the US party can return to the UML without condition. Maoist under pressure: Maoist Center is not satisfied with the election result. NC voters didn’t cast votes for the Maoist candidates. The vote transfer plan was unsuccessful during the elections. However, in the previous elections, when Maoist Center had developed an election alliance with the UML, the problem of vote transfer was not seen and MC had emerged as a strong party. Therefore, Maoist leaders are putting pressure on Prachanda for joining hands with the UML in days to come.  The other reason is an internal dispute in the Nepali Congress. The anti-establishment camp in the Nepali Congress led by Sekhar Koirala and Gagan Thapa is against the agreement for sharing the PM’s post by Deuba and Prachanda turn by turn. Likewise, they are putting pressure on Deuba for keeping the president’s post for the Nepali Congress.  If NC will give the prime minister’s post to Prachanda, he may face non-cooperation from a large section of the NC workers and it would be difficult for Prachanda to lead the coalition government.  Therefore, developing an alliance with UML is a better option for the Maoist Center, it is believed.  People’s News Monitoring Service
