By Our Reporter  The elections of 2022 not only threw a hung parliament in the centre but also in all seven provinces. No single party could garner majority votes in any of the seven provinces although the CPN-UML was short of a vote to garner a majority in Province-1 and UML is likely to form government in Province-1 with the support of the Rastriya Prajatantra Party. Of the seven provinces, NC emerged as the largest party in two and NC in five. The UML fared badly in Karnali and Sudur Paschim provinces this time. The ruling alliance may easily form its government in Bagmati, Gandaki, Karnali and Sudur Paschim Province. The Madhes-based parties will be key in forming the government in Madhes Province while in Lumbini the smaller parties could become kingmakers in the formation of the government. When the provincial assemblies lack a majority of a single party, horse trading and other anomalies are likely to increase in the provincial assemblies inviting political instability.
