Prime Minister Lokendra Bahadur Chand has made his commitment that the newly formed coalition government will work for strengthening the multiparty democracy, constitutional monarchy and parliamentary system. Chand, in a press conference organised last Thursday, stated that the development of the nation is not possible only with the works of a government, thus, he added, the national consensus among political parties is needed. Responding to a question put by a media person on the implementation of the Mallik Commission report, he said that the then government has already taken steps, thus, now it is not necessary to take any new measures. About Maoist activities in the country, Chand viewed that the main reason is poverty. This government will find out the root cause and eliminate the problem through open-hearted dialogue with Maoist activists, he said. People’s Review, 20 March 1997
