Cases of dengue have increased significantly in the Kathmandu Valley and across the Tarai.
In the three districts of the valley, the hospitals have already been overcrowded with dengue patients. All the beds of big hospitals like Bir Hospital have already been occupied by dengue patients.
Among the three districts of the valley, Lalitpur has the largest number of patients followed by Kathmandu. In Lalitpur, the cases are close to 2,000 and in Kathmandu, the cases are nearly 1,000 according to the Ministry of Health and Population.
Unofficially, two deaths, one in Kathmandu and the other in Kailali were reported.
Doctors have already warned that dengue patients will continue to increase for two months and urged people to adopt measures to remain safe from dengue.
Dengue is transmitted by female Aedes aegypti or Aedes albopictus mosquitoes after they bite a person.
The peak biting time of the mosquito is early in the morning and in the evening before dusk, said doctors.
As there is no vaccine or specific medication for dengue fever, patients should seek medical help, take rest, drink plenty of fluids and should take medicines only as per the doctor’s advice.
