Kathmandu, 16 July: Following the controversy over the arms procurement process for the Nepal Police, the Ministry of Finance (MoF) has denied to release funds. After the news that the process of opening a letter of credit (LC) was being initiated for the purchase of Italian weapons through a Chinese company in the setting of a Nepali intermediary, the Ministry of Finance itself halted the release of Rs 840 million.
On Friday, the MoF, sending a letter to the Finance Committee of the House of Representatives informed that the funds for the purchase of weapons had been halted from being released to the police. Earlier, the committee had taken all the documents related to the purchase of weapons from the police headquarters for investigation.
