US General Charles A. Flynn with Nepalese Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba during Gen Flynn's recent Nepal visit.
By Nirmal P. Acharya Following the successful signing of the MCC treaty with Nepal, the US is instantly pushing Nepal to join its military alliance known as SPP. Although the Nepal government has decided not to participate in the US government’s SPP for the time being, it is totally possible for the US hegemony to succeed, just like how MCC did. Why is Nepal so important to the US? Nepal is neither located in any major strategic transportation routes and gateways nor does Nepal have abundant resources such as oil which the US feels obliged to control, moreover, Nepal is geographically very far away. The answer simply lies in the nature of the military protocol of the SPP and the US sees an immense military value in Nepal and is willing to make use of it. MCC is just paving the way, SPP is the ultimate goal, bringing dangerous security implications for Nepal. So, what military value has the US found in Nepal? I recently read the remarks of a British scholar (https://www.express.co.uk/news/science/1627399/world-war-3-water-supplies-rivers-shut-off-india-pakistan-nuclear-war/amp). We are well acquainted with the fact that British are the father of American hegemonic theory and strategy. The scholar highlights how a war would break out between India and Pakistan over water disputes and soon escalate to full-blown civil uprisings leading to nuclear war. Regardless of the article saying Pakistan, yours truly strongly believes what it purports is China. Thus, there is the possibility that the deep involvement of the US in Nepal is to provoke and control this planned war at a close range. Nepal is currently the most fragile country in the Himalayas. The government changes almost every year, INGOs and NGOs are overwhelming, and the society is highly divided. In this scenario, it is very easy for the US to strike. Nepal has opened its doors by signing the MCC treaty and now provides a passage for the US. Next, we will see the following scenarios: first, the US military will do everything possible to enter Nepal, for example, to conduct joint military exercises or military training; second, the US will increase its dollar quota for some specific units, such as the NGOs founded and operated by the First Lady; third, the American-style democracy and freedom will set off a new wave of color revolution in Nepal. If you do not believe it, I suggest you keep your eyes open for who comes next and what happens.
