At a meeting last week between Prime Minister Share Bahadur Deuba and a group of Left leaders led by UML General Secretary Madhav Kumar Nepal the latter charged, in a protest note, that “state terrorism” had been unleashed against innocent people in the government’s bid to tackle the “People’s War” movement led by Maoists.
As per Nepal, who asked that the government act legally, the government was torturing political workers in the name of suppressing Maoists. The “People’s Movements “was lunched by Maoists two months or so ago in a number of remote hill districts, mainly in west Nepal, and has since claimed about two dozen lives.
