By Our Reporter Months have elapsed since the Maoist Centre held its convention. But party chair Pushpa Kamal Dahal been unable to pick the party general secretary. A communist party without a party general secretary cannot be imagined but the Maoist Centre has been without one for months. It is said that Dahal has not decided yet as to who should he pick as general secretary. Obviously, there are two top contenders-Barsha Man Pun and Janardan Sharma—for the key post. During the time of the general convention, Pun was receiving treatment in China and the post seemed to be reserved for him. But now months after Pun returned and has become physically fit, Dahal has not appointed his aide in the party. Now Sharma is serving as Finance Minister and Pun is without any post. As such, Dahal may appoint Pun in the vacant post of general secretary. But again, when there is pressure to remove Sharma from the Cabinet because of his poor performance, Dahal may send Pun to the Cabinet in Sharma’s place. As such, Sharma may become the general secretary. But still, Pun looks weightier candidate for the post because of his Janajati origin, because the party has more leaders from the Brahmin/Kshetri community than the Janajati ones.
