BABBLES

By Babbler The "gang of five" candidates had contested elections as alliance candidates and some of them also contested elections in other parties’ election symbols. Understandably, they are the alliance candidate but they, after securing victory, are giving credit to their particular party! In this election, either the UML or the RPP have contested the election, otherwise, others were elected through an electoral alliance! India bans paddy export India has banned the export of paddy. According to a report, several trucks carrying paddy to Nepal from India have been stuck at the Nepal-India border. We know that after the prolonged Russia-Ukraine war, as buffer stock, India has restricted the export of paddy. Along with the introduction of multiparty democracy and now loktantra, Nepal, an agricultural country, has become a country importing agro-products worth billions of rupees from India. During the Panchayat days, we had a policy for keeping buffer stock. The Food Corporation, Salt Trading Corporation, and National Trading were established for this purpose. And Nepal was exporting many agro-products during those days. Now, we are practising free trade policy and the tradition of keeping buffer stock has already been ended. But what about the possible food crisis that is likely going to take place shortly? Have our rulers of the day thinking about it? Multiple crises in the offing? The shameless government, on the next day of the local elections, has rewarded the Nepali people with an increment on petroleum products by 10 rupees per litre. It will have a chain effect as transportation cost is going to increase and the food price is going to be skyrocketed at multiple levels. Besides, as an impact of the Russia-Ukraine war, we may face other crises including a shortage of food items. Already, the nation’s economic indicators have gone negative in all sectors and there is less chance of improvement on it shortly. Viewing these scenarios, Nepal seems to face a multiple crisis soon! QUOTES OF THE WEEK
  • Prithvi Narayan Shah had established this country with a great struggle. King Mahendra and Birendra had sacrificed their lives to save this country. The past, present and future of the country will surely be ruined in the next 10-15 years if we fail to reinstate the king.
Maharudra Prasad Pokharel
  • The increasing support for Balen Shah has proven that the people are fed up with the dynasty politics of the major political parties especially NC, UML and Maoist. The top leadership should resign immediately. Young leaders should come up now.
Suryakumar Thap
  • Deubaji, Poudelji and Sitaulaji should immediately merge the party with the communists to institutionalize such a beautiful and heartfelt practice.
Keshav P. Bhattarai
  • Many times, many of us forget that in a democracy the power of the people is always greater than the people in power! But ever so often election time is a rude reminder to the powerful as to exactly how limited their power is in front of the power of the vote of the common man.
Anil Shah
  • Electronic voting machines could have been used to reduce costs, and make voting, counting and results quick, fair and free of rigging, but the traditional Election Commission must have felt that it could not make commission without the use of paper ballots. The government and the parties are equally responsible.
Om Kumar Thapa
  • In Nepal's history, there has never been such a buzz about local elections.
Just one name, just one attempt, has ended the prophecy of political figures. Remember the name "Balen Shah". Shashank Das
  • India is such a selfish neighbour of Nepal that today Gautam Buddha International Airport has received its first international flight Jajeera J9545, which had to enter Nepal airspace via Simra and Kathmandu and fly additional 120 miles to reach Bhairahawa. The big country must have a big heart for its small neighbours. Had India given an entry point via Nepalgunj or Mahendranagar or Bhirahawa the flight distance should have been reduced and fares would be cheaper! India wants a superpower status in the UN for what reason? Bad luck for Nepal to be sand-witched between India and China and immediate neighbour of India which never like to see small countries' progress.
Keshab Shrestha
  • King Mahendra assumed executive power after seeing the pro-India character of political parties and leaders. He brought a wave of nationalism. He built the East-West Highway and Kodari Highway connecting China. He opened industries all over the country. Today we are living in the infrastructure built by Mahendra.
Modnath Prashrit
  • If the reason cited for PM Modi’s avoiding the Gautam Buddha International Airport (GBIA) touchdown is correct, then clearly India is not a mature country yet!
