By Our Reporter  As the day to field candidates for the local level elections is approaching closer, the parties are busy forging alliance in a bid to win the elections. When the ruling parties are preparing to field common candidates, the CPN-UML has also forged alliance with fringe parties like Kamal Thapa-led RPP-N and Parivar Dal. The UML has also forged alliance with Mahantha Thakur-led Loktantrik Samajwadi Party and is likely to forge alliance with Janamt Party of CK Raut. Even the Rastriya Prajatantra Party has forged alliance with the ruling parties in some districts like Jhapa. Interestingly, the parties are forging alliance in the local polls to ensure victory of the top leaders of the party in the parliamentary elections. Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba needs alliance to secure victory of his wife Arzu Rana, who lost elections in Kailali in 2017. Pushpa Kamal Dahal and Madhav Kumar Nepal themselves cannot win elections without support from the NC. Ram Chandra Paudel needs alliance to become president after the parliamentary elections. Moreover, Nepal needs alliance for the survival of his party, because his party may not win even a single seat without forging alliance as his is new party. Likewise, KP Sharma Oli needs alliance for the same. This is why the parties are busy forging alliance giving up their political ideologies. Imagine how the alliance between RPP-N and the CPN-UML is possible. Likewise, the alliance between the Maoist Centre and NC is quite unnatural. However, a good thing is that alliance has polarized the parties in two directions—one led by NC and another by the CPN-UML. If the alliance continues for a few years, the country will ultimately heads towards two-party system, which will be key in maintaining political stability in the country.
