Assistant US Secretary in the State Department Donald Lu with the American Ambassador in Kathmandu

Kathmandu, 20 November: The US government has planned to take back the 500 million US $ worth MCC grant project if Nepal will delay in rectifying the project from Parliament.  Assistant Secretary for South and Central Asian Affairs of the Department of State Donald Lu, who was in town, during a meeting with Maoist Center chair Pushpakamal Dahal Prachanda on Friday, urged for rectifying the MCC from Parliament earliest as possible.  Lu informed Prachanda that other countries are keen to receive such grant support if Nepal will delay in rectifying it. Lu informed that if Nepal will not rectify the MCC by December this year, the US government will take back it. In reply, Prachanda had clarified that Nepal has not rejected the grant project but the government is planning to endorse the project after developing a consensus among all the political parties.  He said that the project has fallen into controversy after the latest amendment on the project, reports Nagarik daily.
