Kathmandu, 12 November: Lawyers have protested at the main gate from 10 am today to prevent Chief Justice of the Supreme Court Cholendra Shamsher Rana from entering the court. Security had been beefed up around the Supreme Court since the morning after the lawyers protesting against Rana were planning to encircle in front of the main gate. Armed police were also mobilized. In the midst of all this, by evading the sit-in of the lawyers, Chief Justice Rana entered the Supreme Court through another gate adjacent to the Attorney General's Office. This is the first time in the history of the court that the main gate of the Supreme Court has been created an obstacle for the entry of the Chief Justice and he has been forced to enter from another gate. However, senior advocate Satish Krishna Kharel says that this is the second time that the main gate of the Supreme Court has been closed. Just as the lawyers blocked the entry of the Chief Justice by holding a sit-in at the main gate, earlier the Chief Justice had tried to stop the agitating lawyers by closing the main gate. The lawyers are divided into two factions. A group of lawyers led by the Bar Association are protesting against CJ Rana, whereas, another group of lawyers are saying that the Bar Association has demonstrated anarchism by putting pressure on the CJ for tendering resignation instead of following natural practice based on legal provisions. The legal provision to oust the CJ is filing an impeachment case in the House by a majority of the MPs. People's News Monitoring Service
