
Kathmandu, 8 November: Though the ruling alliance has been expressing varied views on the US Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC), it will be passed only after a national consensus. The ruling Nepali Congress wants to endorse it from the parliament whereas its main allies Maoist Centre and United Socialist want it to pass with amendments. The United Socialist party led by Madhav Kumar Nepal has not made its views public on the compact while Federal Council Chair Baburam Bhattarai has urged to endorse it as soon as possible and implement it immediately. Janamorcha has been opposing the US$ 500 million grant since long.
Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba and Maoist Centre Chair Pushpa Kamal Dahal, writing to the MCC Headquarters have stated that the pact will be signed only after national consensus, according to reports.
