Kathmandu, 5 November: Ilam’s senior journalist Somnath Susheli has been honoured with this year’s Jasuda Memorial Award.  The Award has been established in honour of Ilam’s literate and senior journalist late Jasuda Khaki Pradhan by her family. Amidst the celebration of the 113 birth anniversary of Great Poet Laxmi Prasad Devkota and Buddhi Prasad Ghimire Memorial Day, the Award was handed over to Susheli by the Bhanu Prativa Samrakchan tatha Sahitya Sambardhan Samiti, Ilam chaired by Bimal Baidhya. Earlier, Ilam’s literates Balika Thapaliya and Anwesh Thulung were awarded. The Award is comprised of cash worth eleven thousand with a dosalla and a letter of felicitations. The Award was handed over by the chief of the District Coordination Committee, Ilam, Ganesh Baral and Mayor of Ilam Municipality Mahesh Basnet.  Susheli, former president of the Federation of Nepalese Journalists, Ilam Branch and former vice-chairman of the FNJ’s No 1 Province, had joined Bichar Weekly, vernacular weekly publishing from Jhapa in 2047 BS. Later, he worked for Gorkhapatra daily, Avenues Television and News 24 as a local correspondent.  Susheli is presently station manager of the Nepalvani FM and chief editor of the Ilam Express daily.  Earlier, the Award was being given on the occasion of the Bhanu Anniversary on 29 Asar. However, due to the Covid-19 pandemic, this year, the Award handover programme was postponed. On the occasion, Bhanu Prativa Samrakchan Committee chairman Bimal Baidhya had shed light on journalist late Jasuda Khaki Pradhan.  The programme addressed by CDO Dhurba Bahadur Khadka, Academy member Komal Niraula, among others, had extended congratulations to the awardee.  On the occasion, awardee Susheli had extended thanks for honouring him with the Award.   People's News Monitoring Service
