India facing energy crisis but is reluctant to import Nepal’s electricity
Kathmandu, 18 October: Presently India is facing an acute shortage of energy due to the scarcity of coal. Half of the energy market in India is occupied by the electricity produced through the use of coal. Of late, India is unable to manage coal as per the demand, which has caused a reduction in electricity production.
At a time when India is facing an acute shortage of energy, the electricity produced in Nepal is going to waste due to less demand than production. Nepal’s electricity may support India to minimize the electricity shortage there but India has not wished to import electricity from Nepal, reports Kantipur Online.
India has not permitted to import Nepal’s electricity although the Nepal Electricity Authority has time and again requested the Indian authority for importing the electricity produced in Nepal.
To note, India is the monopoly buyer of Nepal’s electricity. If India will procure Nepal’s electricity, the country’s economy may become prosperous. But India doesn’t want to buy electricity from Nepal. This is the message to those who are dreaming to export electricity to India and make Nepal’s economy prosperous.
This is also the message that Nepal should produce electricity at minimum cost and supply it for domestic and industrial use within the country.
