Almutairi to resign after SAAF championship
Kathmandu, 14 October: The head coach of the Nepali national football team Abdullah Almutairi has said that he will resign from the post after the final game of the SAAF Championship 2021 and will not return to Nepal.
Aggressively presented at a press conference after Nepal entered the final by holding Bangladesh to a 1-1 draw, Almutairi had criticized the Nepali media for being so critical of him.
He said that he has already resigned from the post and the SAAF Championship final game will be his last game.
“I will not return to Nepal after the final game,” he said.
Coach Almutairi said he had not eaten or slept for the past three days.
“I have been under a lot of stress for the last three days”, he said.
Analyzing the game, he said, "After the Bangladeshi goalkeeper was shown a red card, the team was limited to 10 players and the game turned in our favor."
"I want to thank the Bangladeshi goalkeeper for making me the happiest person in the world right now. I am grateful to him".
In the game, Anjan Bista scored for Nepal from the penalty spot and the decision of that penalty was also controversial. Speaking on the occasion, coach Almutairi said, "I can't say for sure whether this decision was right or not. That would be a lie. But as the coach of the Nepali team, I will not speak against that decision.
