Kathmandu, 12 October: The months-long strike staged by three staffers’ unions has ended on 11 October following an assurance from the newly appointed Minister for Tourism, Civil Aviation and Culture for addressing their demands. Three trade unions were in protest for three and a half months against the proposal of changing the present structure of the Nepal Airlines Corporation, have suspended their agitation since Monday. After talks with Minister Prem Ale at the Ministry on Monday, the trade unions affiliated with the Nepali Congress, the Maoist Center and the UML ended the protest programmes after 104 days. In the discussion with the Minister, they have demanded to stop the proposal to change the institutional structure of the corporation and to dismiss the general manager of the corporation. In response, Minister Ale has asked for 15 days to fulfil these demands. A statement issued by the trade unions after the talks said that General Manager Dim Prasad Poudel has been barred from entering the corporation. The then K.P. Sharma Oli led government while presenting the budget for the fiscal year 2078/79 had proposed transforming the corporation to a limited company by showing increasing loss faced by the corporation.  The then government had presented an account statement of the corporation showing that it is facing a loan burden worth 47 billion and a reserve deficit worth 10 billion.  The three trade unions in the corporation had launched a protest against the proposed draft of the management letter and regulation for restructuring Nepal Airlines Corporation into a limited company.
