Kathmandu, 7 October: Coinciding marking the 60 years of inking of the Nepal-China Boundary Treaty, the   Nepal-China Media Forum has unveiled a study report on the present status of the Nepal-China border. The team has confirmed no border dispute between Nepal and China since the signing of the boundary treaty between the two countries.  According to the Forum, there are two main reasons for this study. One, to fulfill the general interests in the issues related to the border between Nepal and China in the last six decades and how to resolve them through the method is a regional issue of the organization related to the communication sector between the two countries. Second, there is a need for a factual study to end the ambiguity created by the announcement of the current government to study the problems along the border with China after the change of government in Nepal and the objection raised by the leader of the Main Opposition in Nepal's sovereign Parliament. The study team has stated that relations between Nepal and China are moving ahead smoothly since the establishment of bilateral ties between the two neighbouring countries in 1955. The relations between the two friendly nations are far from any form of tension that generally may occur between neighbouring countries around the world due to misunderstandings.  The Boundary Treaty between Nepal and China was held on 5 October 1961. King of Nepal Mahendra Bir Bikram Shah and Chinese President Liu Shaoqi had signed the deal in Beijing. No dispute erupted again once the border issue between the two countries had settled with the signing of the deal. There is no complexity been seen regarding the relations between the two countries regarding the border issue. This is a pleasing and happy situation between the two nations. The relations between the two nations are as high as mountains situated between the two nations and it has been extended and rooted at the people to people level also.  The Objectives of the Study, the Forum has stated, is to take information about the situation of the border between the two countries. And, to let the Nepalese people know about the detailed information on trans-border cooperation and China's support to Nepal's development and fighting against earthquakes and pandemics. The study has aimed to find out the situation of people-to-people relations between the two countries and to know the measures of resolving problems at the local level if seen any. For that, it is necessary to find out facts on the entire border and border points and collect the misleading information on border relations spread by some domestic and foreign media. It also has aimed to remind the people about the historical fact of border relations between Nepal and China. By doing all this a comprehensive reading materials and resources for the researchers has been compiled as a concert report that may use as reference materials to media and study. In this course, the researchers have collected historical facts in Kathmandu, interactions with experts and interviews with high-level officials of the border areas. The real situation has been observed by a team by visiting the fields like Khasa of Sindhupalchowk, Namkha of Humla and Lamabagar of Dolakha.  While this study is still going on, the committee formed by the government of Nepal to study the border dispute with China has already submitted its report to the government. However, since the government has not made the report public, there is growing interest in what facts and conclusions are drawn from it. Though information drawn out from informal sources confirmed that the committee designed by the Government of Nepal also has submitted the report that confirms that there are not any border issues between the two countries. All the border points and marker points are at the same place where it has been erected in the past. And, the recommendation of the team is that a joint committee from both the countries has to be visited there at Humla and can develop a common understanding.  Therefore, the findings of this independent study conducted by the Nepal-China Media Forum can be an important reference for scholars, journalists and all stakeholders studying Nepali-China border issues in general. The study has some limitations that include lake of enough time and resources. So, all the methods and procedures have not been completed in this case as is usually done in a detailed study on such issues. However, full awareness has been adopted during the course of the study on the depth and sensitivity of the issue. Therefore, all the criteria required to make this study objective and factual have been fulfilled in this regard. The study highlights how other issues that have been seen in different parts has been solved. How does the crucial border issue of ownership of Mount Everest have been resolved in the past! It also discusses the uses of Khark from Charan and other agreements made to determine its ownership and the practical relationship locally. Such a study would be incomplete without discussing only the border between Nepal and China and the historical relationship between the two countries. Therefore, the relationship between Nepal and China since historical times has been made an important part of this study. In this context, an attempt has been made to restore the historical significance of the relationship between Nepal and China based on how the ancient literature has presented is based on historical facts. The fact that Nepal and China are good neighbours of happiness and misery is also presented here. Therefore, Nepal-China economic relations are discussed in the second part of this study. Along with China's contribution to post-earthquake reconstruction in Nepal in 2015, it also includes a factual presentation on China's assistance in rescuing Nepal from the Corona epidemic and as a responsible neighbour in times of crisis. Similarly, the report also mentions the benefits that Nepal can reap from the Road and Belt Initiative (BRI) initiated by China. In this process, the statements of the locals have been collected by visiting the areas where there is a dispute. However, due to the complexity of the social, political and other issues seen there, the information collected in that order is not fully presented in the study report. The purpose of this study is to analyze whether there is a boundary problem or not on the basis of facts so that no other subject or context has been discussed on the report. Instead, the three main objectives of the Nepal-China border agreement signed on 8 April 2016, are to resolve some of the ambiguities on the border, to establish a scientific demarcation of the entire border and to establish a formal border post, and to organize and enhance friendly relations between the two countries. In the meantime, the issue of whether it has been completed or not has been looked into in-depth. Overall, this research material, based on a brief study conducted by the Nepal-China Media Forum, sheds light on the depth of the current border issue between Nepal and China. This study material is useful for the general public to understand the veracity of the news transmitted in recent days on some domestic and foreign media and other social networks and internet platforms on the alleged border issue with Nepal and China.  People's News Monitoring Service
