Political Commentary

By P.R. Pradhan This reporter has lost trust in those literate people who themselves call intellectuals, media persons and political leaders. If they have command in English, they visit Western embassies and if they have less command in English, they visit the Lainchaur Durwar. Former Indian ambassador Ranjit Rae has exposed noted intellectuals, high-profile political leaders including Madhav Nepal, Pushpakamal Dahal Prachanda, Sher Bahadur Deuba, and many others in his newly published book “Kathmandu Dilemma Resetting India-Nepal Ties”. Now, those intellectuals, political leaders and former civil servicemen are clarifying that they were not in contact with the then ambassador and they had not consulted anything with him. Nevertheless, without any pieces of evidence, how the author dared to write such a report even knowing that those people whom he has mentioned in his book are still alive and they may refute such an allegation. Sure, Rae and Shyam Sharan are the ambassadors assigned to Nepal who had an evil intention about this Himalayan Kingdom. However, the fact of his presentation cannot be denied. Ratna Sansar Shrestha has tweeted: “Nepali leaders, businessmen, intellectuals feel pride when they get an opportunity to receive a call from the embassies or get an opportunity to meet the ambassadors. They believe that such meetings and talks will be kept secret. The fact is that embassies tap the phone calls and CC cameras have been installed there”. “Later, when such meetings will be made public, the concerned individuals may decline such a report but the person who makes public them, obviously keep the evidence.” The Nepali mentality: Dr Prakashchandra Lohani has time and again written articles that the Nepali society gives high profile treatment to the diplomats, which they don’t receive in other countries. Many diplomats have shared their views to Lohani that the diplomats are ashamed of such a high-profile treatment received in Nepal. James Moriarty was the American ambassador here. Later, he was transferred to Bangladesh. When Moriarty was in Kathmandu, every day, his name appeared in the broadsheet dailies but since he went to Bangladesh, where was he disappeared, we didn’t know. Even in Bangladesh, the diplomats cannot cross the diplomatic limit but in Nepal, they are even found acting as political leaders. Another embarrassing example is that our sitting prime minister Girija Prasad Koirala had inked an agreement with the leaders in the Tarai agitation at the presence of the Indian ambassador inside the Indian embassy. This is a serious diplomatic blunder. Such a practice will continue unless we the Nepalis will not correct our behaviour. Foreign puppet civil society members: Perhaps, Khagendra Shangraula has no pride in becoming a Nepali citizen. All his kids are in the USA and he is in Kathmandu to defame his motherland and patriotic people. We know Mohan Baidhya and C.P. Gajurel were patriotic Maoist leaders and they were not under Indian control. Therefore, they had to face jail terms in India. Others, Pushpakamal Dahal Prachanda and Baburam Bhattarai were enjoying safe shelter in the Indian capital city Delhi as they were serving the Indian interests. Baidhya, viewing the present threat on Nepal’s sovereignty and independence, had remarked in a television interview on the necessity of developing an alliance with the King and other patriotic forces to save the nation. Shangraula, who is against the Nepali civilization and is advocating for cow slaughtering, like journalist turned civil society leader Narayan Wagle, has denounced Baidhya for becoming pro-monarchist. Shangraula is not worried about the present deteriorating situation of the country. When India had imposed an economic blockade on Nepal in 2005, a team led by late Padmaratna Tuladhar had reached the Nepal-India border in Bhairahawa and they had requested India to impose a strict blockade against Nepal. To note, they were on the payroll of the Americans funded NTTP, an INGO. The question is that can we save the nation having such people around us?
